Abstract :
A formula is derived for the field excited in a perfectly conducting rectangular cavity by an external field incident on an aperture that may be electrically large. The formula is applied to the case of a rectangular aperture and is shown to produce results in good agreement with results derived using rigorous numerical codes and also recent experimental results.
