Abstract :
This paper discusses a numerical model based on the finite element formulation for the calculation of magnetohydrodynamic fields induced from underwater acoustic sources in an ocean environment. The speed of sound is considered as depth dependent and the ocean as a conducting medium, i.e. eddy-currents are taken into account. An alternative formulation based on the modal method is also investigated. An axisymmetric problem consisting of a monopole source submerged in the ocean is considered. Acceptable results are obtained in both formulations for Bmag above the ocean surface
