  • Abstract
Results are presented of an investigation of a cylindrical dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) fed in using dual coaxial probes in the differential feed arrangement. It provided directional radiation patterns with low cross-polarization levels over a large impedance bandwidth. Simulation study showed that the DRA offers an impedance bandwidth of 68% (S 11 ?? -10 dB) and broadside radiation patterns with good gain and low cross-polarization levels. In comparison to this, a similar single probe fed DRA provided 82% bandwidth but with the mix of the omni-directional and directional radiation patterns along with high cross-polarization levels. Thus, the differential feed arrangement helped to achieve wideband impedance bandwidth and enhanced radiation characteristics when employed with a cylindrical DRA. A prototype of this DRA including the feed arrangement was manufactured and experimentally verified for the impedance matching and gain radiation patterns. The measured results reasonably agree with the simulated data.
