Abstract :
Dr. Robert G. Kouyoumjian, Professor Emeritus of the Department of Electrical Engineering at The Ohio State University (OSU), Columbus, Ohio, passed away peacefully, at almost 88 years of age on January 3, 2011, following a short illness. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on April 26, 1923. During World War II, he served in the US Army Air Force, where he received training in meteorology. He then attended electronics classes at Harvard as well as MIT, and was involved in the early development of radar meteorology. He served as a Captain in World War II, after which he returned to complete his undergraduate education at OSU. He received his BS in Engineering Physics in 1948, and his PhD in Physics in 1953, both from OSU. His PhD adviser at OSU was Prof. Victor H. Rumsey. In 1954, he joined the faculty of the Department of Electrical Engineering at OSU, where he became a Professor in 1962. He retired in 1982, and became a Professor Emeritus in the department. He remained active in teaching for some years after retirement, but continued his research work almost to the end of his life.
