Abstract :
The electrical and thermal requirements of a solid dielectric for superconducting a. c. cables have been determined theoretically. From some recently published data on thin samples, such criteria seem atainable with certain nonpolar polymers; the range for experimental work on more relevant dimensions and geometry is specified. The transmission characteristics of such a cable are considered good. Economic and technical comparisons are made briefly with similar cables which have nonsolid insulants.
