Abstract :
Two techniques based on a mode expansion formulation are applied to the analysis of a grounded dielectric slab periodically loaded with metal strips. When the thickness of the metal strips is considered in the formulation, mode matching is employed. When the thickness is assumed to be zero, some numerical errors arise using mode matching, and the point-matching technique is used. Both techniques allow the fields to be obtained in any region, and they determine the radiation characteristics of the structure. The numerical results obtained in both cases show good accuracy, and they agree with each other when the thickness of the metal strips is small
