Abstract
A circuit model of a synchronous machine offers ease of formulation of the state equations and eliminates the need to invert the inductance matrix at every step during a digital simulation. The effects of fast-acting excitation control on the stability of a system are studied as an example and an exact analysis of a system containing two synchronous machines connected through a short transmission line is also given.
