Abstract :
Erosion of silica-filled cycloaliphatic epoxide resins employed as outdoor insulators has been simulated in the laboratory. It has been found that the active agent is sodium hydroxide, produced by electrolysis of saline pollution. Although the unfilled resins resist sodium hydroxide tolerably well, the presence of filler results in extremely rapid erosion, and possible processes to account for this are proposed.
