Abstract :
As it is known, temporal variations of medium parameters cause alterations in the frequency and amplitude of the electromagnetic wave propagating in the medium. The wave reflection from a medium-moving boundary results in the same effect. A combination of these two phenomena may produce a qualitatively new effect, the consequences of which can be both the accumulation of electromagnetic energy and generation of electromagnetic pulses. The investigation of these phenomena is described in the present work. The interaction of an electromagnetic wave is studied where the dielectric boundaries are moving toward each other to produce a total collapse of the layer in a finite time interval. As it will be demonstrated, this causes excitation of packets of electromagnetic waves with the frequency increasing without bound (in the approximation of an infinitely powerful mechanism that drives the boundary motion)
