Abstract
Over the past decade, voice communications have moved from the public-switched telephone network to the Internet. The IETF has enabled this transition by developing stable standards for call setup and media transport. The authors provide an overview of these standards and show how they work together to provide a complete, Internet-based, real-time communications capability.
