Abstract
The paper examines the optimal selection of feedback-gain matrices to achieve pole-placement objectives. The modal-control technique of Simon and Mitter and Retallack and MacFarlane is adapted for computer realisation. Further, a sequential feedback-gain-selection technique designed to approach the minimum of a gain-matrix norm functional is developed. Several examples are included for illustration. A computer program of the algorithm is available from the authors.
