Abstract :
Mobile communication has enjoyed a tremendous rise in popularity during the last decade. The network reliability is an important concern in wireless ad-hoc networks. Therefore, it is felt essential to evaluate the reliability of the Mobile Ad-hoc Network (MANET). Many existing wireless ad hoc network routing protocols assume the availability of reliable nodes. This, however, is not a realistic as the dynamics of given wireless ad hoc networks. Also, due to frequent changes in topology, link failures and node failures are always possible. Hence, a realistic method is needed to evaluate reliability of ad-hoc networks, which is suitable in case of these uncertainties. In this paper, it has been tried to propose a node failure model, which is injected into the MANET. Then, efforts are also made to illustrate the effect of the node failures on the performance of the MANETs. This paper evaluates how well MANET behave when under a realistic scenario of momentary node failures and topology changes, which is represented by a node failure model. A gap analysis is then carried out and strategies are planned to improve the performance and reliability of MANET.
