Abstract :
The paper presents a review of recent developments in West German higher education in relation to the effects on engineering education. The structure of modern university government is presented in terms of the Stuttgart University model, which incorporated recent legislative obligations. Further, the paper discusses the development of the Fachhochschulen and the integration of Fachhochschulen with the technical universities into the Gesamthochschule (comprehensive universities). The role of the VDI and its relation to the CEI is discussed.
