Abstract :
The authors demonstrate a gain bandwidth of 37 nm in a 40 cascaded erbium-doped fibre amplifier chain, corresponding to a transmission distance of 2400 km. This result exceeds the previously reported gain bandwidths by >11 nm at an equivalent transmission distance. This was possible due to the flexible gain equaliser made of all-fibre acousto-optic tunable filters
