Abstract :
The paper deals with electromagnetic transient phenomena in series-compensated lines. The most common schemes for series and shunt-compensation are considered. The first part of the paper presents the results of a study done on a t.n.a. This includes the analysis of dropping faulted lines, extinction of the secondary arc-currents, re-energisation of the lines, and fast reinsertion of the capacitor banks. The series capacitors may be placed along the line or at the line terminals in the substations. The influence of location is carefully examined. The second part of the paper presents the results of a digital-computer analysis of transient short-circuit currentsand overvoltages across the capacitors in less favourable conditions, i.e. when the capacitor banks are locatedat the line terminals.
