Null-protocol network for communication between digital devices

The paper proposes a network for sharing peripheral resources between a number of small computers in such a way that there is no protocol apparent to the users. This approach is taken because of the great costs involved in other wise necessary software changes. The implications in the design philosophy of such a network are examined and the problems are discussed for a network of this type currently under construction for 18 computers of seven different types.
