Abstract
A high-resolution readout from MO-ROM method, which utilizes a difference in coercivity between “rough” and “smooth” areas in a disk is discussed. The readout performance is demonstrated using optical head of 680 nm wavelength and NA 0.55. It is found that the signal from mark length of 0.25 μm can be obtained in spite of 1.1 μm in spot size (1/e2). The observed readout signal is also found to be in reasonable agreement with a simulated result based on MO-ROM readout principle
