Abstract :
It is desirable to employ low NLTS media in high density magnetic recording. The perpendicular/longitudinal (P/L) composite media, consisting of a perpendicularly oriented top layer and a longitudinally oriented underlayer, tends to have lower NLTS value than the single layered perpendicular media due to the opposite shift direction of NLTS in the two recording layers. Experimental results show that the P/L composite media has a lower NLTS than a single layered perpendicular media, and its NLTS value is slightly less sensitive to flying height or switching speed variation when compared with single layered perpendicular media
