Abstract
Laminated thin-film media can achieve high signal-to-noise performance by effectively reducing the grain volume. If one can overcome the issues of thermal decay, sputter complexity, and spacing loss, laminated media can provide an effective path to higher density media. In this work, we show that by choosing a low noise alloy with an appropriate spacer layer and intermediate layer to maintain high coercivity, low noise, thermally stable media can be produced
