Abstract :
This column is about what the IEEE Industry Applications Society (IAS) standards developers do in between semiannual meetings. The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) accredits standards developing organizations such as IEEE according to due process requirements for American national standards (ANS). The minimum acceptable due process requirements that ANSI-accredited standards developers (ASDs) must meet are openness, lack of dominance, balance of interest categories, coordination and harmonization to resolve potential conflicts, notification of standards development, consideration of views and objectives, consensus vote, appeals, written procedures, and compliance with normative ANS policies and administrative procedures [1].
