Abstract :
In this paper the taper effect is discussed in various shielded spin valve structures using the micro-magnetic modeling. It is found that long taper can result in the instability of sensor performance. In addition, it is harder to control the instability if sensors have more than three magnetic layers because the demagnetizing fields become more complicated at sensor edges with increasing magnetic layer number
