Abstract :
Results of an experimental study on the DC breakdown characteristics of liquid helium and nitrogen in the presence of thermally created bubbles are presented. These results show that the bubble shape is affected significantly by the application of an electric field, and that the breakdown voltage depends closely on the bubble shape and decreases down to the breakdown voltage of gas at the normal boiling temperature or lower voltages.
