Abstract
A single-chip implementation of an IEEE 1451 standard transducer interface module (STIM) is presented. It integrates an eight-channel, 12-b, analog-to-digital converter (ADC), two 12-b digital-to-analog converters, and an 8-b microcontroller with 256-B SRAM and 10.5-kB flash EEPROM. Process complexity is simplified by using a split-gate flash EEPROM cell with poly-poly erase, and metal-poly capacitors with a calibration algorithm in the ADC. The chip is 5.0×5.5 mm in 0.6-μm CMOS, operates over 2.7-5.5 V, dissipates 13 mA at 3 V/12 MHz, and is packaged in a 52-pin plastic quad flat pack package
