Abstract :
In 1968 Fredriksen reported the design and construction of a near time optimal control system using a stepper motor as the actuator. Based on this work a near time optimum control system has been successfully instrumented using the indigenous stepper motor available in the laboratory. Results of experiments on the system showed that the optimization factor decreases rapidly for small values of the initial error ¿0. The system was, therefore, modified with a view to improving the optimization factor of low values of ¿0. The modifications carried out and the resulting improvement in system performance are discussed in the paper.
