Abstract :
Wavelength conversion of a 6.3 Gbit/s optical pulse signal based on four-wave mixing (FWM) has been demonstrated utilising an optical parametric loop mirror (PALM) which can separate the generated FWM wave from the input signal and pump waves without optical filtering. Bit error rate measurements have revealed that the PALM can achieve error free operation without optical filtering and can improve the minimum received power with a 2 dB improvement over that of a conventional FWM configuration requiring an optical bandpass filter
