Abstract
The measurement community is best served by transducers with integrated identification and data. The work in the IEEE group and in the involved companies has brought plug and play to the measurement community. This has helped the transition to larger systems with more transducers and simultaneously introduced a new level of quality into the measurements. The author encourages both users and transducer manufacturers alike to participate in the discussions of the standard to ensure that the upcoming IEEE standard meets their needs
