Abstract :
The operating requirements of superconducting cable systems are discussed, and the low-temperature dielectric properties of various gases, liquids and solids are presented. The design and testing of large cables with both helium and nitrogen cooling, using these data, is described. The prediction of cable lifetime based on small sample tests is reported. The design and test performance of large cryogenic cables developed throughout the world at R&D institutions is summarized
