Abstract :
This paper outlines the performance specification which should be met by a high performance Vision Monitor intended for use in television transmission stations. Particular emphasis is laid on the importance of utilizing the correct type of geometric projection to produce a picture on a spherical surface from the ideal picture on a plane surface with the least objectionable type of distortion. Means are indicated whereby the type of projection chosen, namely, stereographic, can be realized in practice. A method called ¿Spot Wobbling¿ by which the line structure of a television picture can be rendered less visible is described. A monitor which incorporates most of the desirable features discussed in the first part of the paper is described in some detail. Some indication is also given of methods by which its performance can be checked without having recourse to a picture.
