The mechanical development of a radio altimeter

The paper discusses the problems involved in developing a piece of radio equipment, intended for service use, from the circuit designer´s laboratory model to a reliable, ¿Engineered¿ version suitable for production. Although the principles involved are applicable to a veriety of equipments, it was thought advisable to make the paper specific, and for this reason a radio Altimeter designed by the research staff of the Telecommunications Research Establishment has been taken as a particular example.
