Abstract
The dielectric loss of dioctyl phthalate in solutions of benzene and liquid paraffin has been measured over the frequency range 105 to 2.35Ã1010 c/s. In benzene the system is characterized by a single relaxation time and the variation of tan ¿ with frequency conforms to the original Debye theory. In liquid paraffin, the system is characterized by a spectrum of relaxation times. The values of the dipole moment determined from these two sets of measurements agree within 2¿ per cent.
