The rollout of active magnetic bearings puts a new spin on bearing control. To many people, magnetic levitation conjures up images of trains like the Shanghai Transrapid, the world´s first commercial high-speed maglev service which shuttles about 7,500 passengers a day at up to 270mph between the city centre and Pudong International Airport.
