Abstract :
As the single-ended traveling-wave fault location method is cost effective and no need for synchronization device, it has been widely researched and discussed. However, the major problem is the identification of the reflected wave-head caused by the fault point. The reflected surge from the adjacent bus usually has the same polarity as the real fault point´s reflected wave-head, so a confusion is inevitable. In this paper, a novel single-ended traveling wave fault location approach is proposed. The new method contains two major step: firstly, a wave-head comparison method is used to identify the Adjacent Bus´ Reflected Wave-head (ABRW) from the Real Fault-point´s Reflected Wave-head (RFRW). And then the intervals between line-modal and ground-modal of both ABRWs and Initial Wave-heads (IWs) are used to give out the exact fault distance. A simulation system based on EMTP is built, and abundant simulation results have validated the effectiveness of the proposed method.
