Abstract
A simplified time-domain analysis based on equivalent circuit, differential equations, and the Laplace transformation is presented for the calculation of the starting current of an induction motor without and with terminal capacitors. The solution is realized by the superposition of natural and forced responses of the starting current components. Experimental verification of the results was conducted on a 2 hp, 220 V, 7 A, 3600 r/min, wye-connected, three-phase induction motor. There is a reasonable agreement between the calculated and the measured transient current values
