Phonevision¿an effective method of subscription television

A brief analysis of the economic problems of television shows a pressing need for an income supplementary to that which operators at present obtain from licence fees or advertising sponsorship. The subscription or home box-office method of obtaining this extra income is shown to be highly desirable, particularly in countries like Australia. The operational objectives of a subscription television service are discussed and the operation of the Phonevision system is then described. Details are given of the video and sound coding and decoding methods.
