Abstract
Manual ultrasonic flaw detection has been employed as an industrial inspection method for several years. Using this technique very high standards of inspection were maintained. It is however not suitable for modern high speed production conditions. The factors limiting the application of manual inspection under these conditions areconsidered and a description given of the fully automatic equipment recently developed to overcome these limitations.
