    [Editor´s note] In this invited and peer-reviewed paper, Professor Ingolf Kru??ger reflects upon the controversy surrounding alleged, sudden acceleration incidents that have, by some, been ascribed to software in affected cars. We invite responses and follow-up comments related to such opinion papers that will be included for subsequent publication online based on recommendation from the editorial board.
