Abstract :
After defining the nature and scope of the field and indicating the roles of.those specialists who contribute towards it, a short historical background is described. Some of the special difficulties encountered in experimentation with human beings are briefly covered, followed by a description of some typical problem areas such as design and layout of displays, design of equipment and controls, illumination, noise, etc. Finally, consideration is given to the practical and theoretical implications of findings in this field for both human behaviour in general and for industrial and business situations in particular.
