Data collection systems, their application and design

A distinction is drawn between two types of data gathering systems. Possible applications for one of these, namely data collection systems, are discussed. The requirements of such systems are then outlined and two types of data collection system are described to indicate possible solutions to these requirements. The final section deals with the totalsystems approach and the effect it will have on future data collection systems.
