            Abstract :
Spectral and performance advantages of previously reported Intersymbol-Interference (ISI) and Jitter Free (IJF) pulse shapes used in linearly and non-linearly amplified modulation schemes, encouraged a search for more power and bandwidth efficient IJF signals. In this paper two general classes of IJF signals which have fast spectral roll-off and low out-of-band energy emission are presented. Spectral properties and error probability Pe performance of these signals in an additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) environment are analytically investigated. Linear transversal, non-linear decision-feedback and raised-cosine type receivers are considered. Experiments have been performed to verify the analytical results. It is shown that a good performance can be attained with five-tap transversal filters and decision-feedback equalizers provide a performance improvement relative to transversal equalizers.
