Abstract :
Early in 1983 the BBC introduced its first optical fibre vision links into full-time service. Each link allows two vision signals to be carried on one fibre between two of the BBC´s West London premises. This paper discusses the background to the installation of the links and describes the terminal equipment developed for them. Details are given of the problems encountered and the solutions adopted over the course of the development and of the performance of the links in operation.
