Abstract :
Dive Computers are usually integrated in a console or wrist worn. They display dive relevant data such as depth, time and decompression obligations. Continuous monitoring of these data is of the utmost importance for safety when diving. This paper describes a light weight, 300 m water resistant, graphical head-mounted matrix display (HMD), which is connected to a wrist worn diving computer and that gives an exact copy of the diving computer screen. Optical components are included to display a virtual image from a distance of 1.0 m. The monocular HMD only occludes a small peripheral area of the divers field of view thus causes relatively little optical interference. The unique design, which enables attachment to almost any diving mask on the market, furthermore allows outstanding pressure resistance and at the same time cost effective manufacturing.
