In July 1922, when the information department of the American Telephone and Telegraph Company (AT&T) printed vol. 1, no. 1 of the now-legendary The Bell System Technical Journal (BSTJ) (US$0.50 per copy; US$1.50 per year), the field of electrical communication was still in its infancy.
