Abstract
Design of transistorised voltage regulators often needs some special considerations normally not encountered in the case of regulators using vacuum tubes. A generalised criterion for the minimum conditions to be satisfied by the unregulated part of the power supply unit for a given output coverage has been first worked out and then a simplified approach to the step-by-step design of the regulator has been developed. It is shown that the introduction of auxiliary power supplies enables the output impedance to be reduced considerably. The overall design procedure has been satisfactorily checked experimentally and the results obtained with a typical voltage regulator covering a range of 0.3 volt to 30 volts at a maximum load current of 1 ampere are presented.
