Abstract :
A new technique is reported for producing variable chirping by a uniform optical fibre Bragg grating. The chirp is obtained by applying a strain gradient through the use of a tapered-thickness piezoelectric ceramic. The grating bandwidth has been increased from -0.15 to -0.34 nm with a ratio of -0.41S pm/V
