Increasing Cooperation [President's Message]

Last November, I attended the 2009 International Conference on Electric Machines and Systems (ICEMS), one of about a dozen conferences that the IEEE Industry Applications Society (IAS) technically cosponsors each year. ICEMS is held yearly in one of the three Asian countries: China, Japan, or Korea. The conference rotates through the three countries. In 2008, the event was held in China; in 2009, it was held in Japan; and in 2010, it will be held in Korea. There were many high-quality papers dealing with the design and application of electric machines and systems. During the conference banquet, Bob Lorenz, the IAS president in 2001, had a message he conveyed to the assembled audience. That message was we need to work together.
