Abstract
The acoustic material signature (AMS) also called V(z) constitutes a unique function that arises from interference of elastic propagating modes in the reflective acoustic microscope. More than only Rayleigh modes can participate in the AMS, and it is shown that by choosing an appropriate coupling fluid, such as mercury, longitudinal modes can also be generated with high efficiency conversion.
