Abstract
From the beginning, a key element of the Internet´s success has been collaboration between its engineers, researchers, network operators, vendors, and service providers. Although the region of Latin America and the Caribbean is one of the fastest growing and most dynamic Internet markets in the world, with roughly a tenth of the Internet´s current users, until recently, it didn´t have an established event or community around which its broad Internet operations community gathered. This article details a major collaborative stride - the first Latin American and Caribbean Network Operators´ Group (LACNOG) meeting.
