Abstract
An instrument is described which controls the value of the field strength of an electromagnet by comparing the resonance frequency of protons in that field with a reference frequency and acting to decrease the difference between them. The reference is generated by a digital frequency synthesizer which is so arranged that its dials are calibrated directly in field strength. The method by which this is achieved and some of the circuits used are described in this paper.
