Abstract :
Voltage-length products for modal evolution-type digital switches are calculated by utilizing an analytic solution for normal-mode coupling in specifically shaped waveguide branches. The operating principles of the digital switch are demonstrated, and, for the shaped devices, interferencelike solutions with perfect crosstalk are shown to exist. Voltage-length products are compared to interferencelike-type devices and to experimental results with linear branches
