Atomic power in a peacetime economy: I. Peacetime uses of atomic energy

PROGRESS in nuclear research was reviewed in Electrical Engineering for March. In cognizance of the fact that atomic energy may be potentially as valuable an instrument of peace as it was of war, the following supplemental articles are presented, reflecting the views of recognized authorities concerning the role of atomic power in the postwar world, with particular emphasis on possible applications and the economics involved. The articles are based on addresses prepared by C. G. Suits (M ´41) vice-president and director, research laboratory, General Electric Company, Schenectady, N. Y., Philip W. Swain, editor, Power, McGraw-Hill Publishing Company, Inc., New York, N. Y., and J. A.
